A CLASSIC TRAVEL POSTER
4.1.
A tourism board planned a poster showing a mountain train crossing a high bridge at sunrise. The first idea involved hiring a helicopter and closing the track for several hours. After checking costs and permissions, the team decided to use a lightweight drone at the regular timetable, avoiding cancellations and saving money.
4.2.
At 6 a.m., a small crew positioned reflectors on the path below the bridge. A safety marshal radioed when hikers were clear, and the drone took off from a marked zone. The pilot followed the train for less than a minute, capturing three clean passes before the valley wind picked up.
4.3.
The published poster shows the red carriage in the lower third, a curve of steel and stone guiding the eye toward snowy peaks. A tiny dog on the footpath is visible if you look closely, and a distant lake mirrors the sky. Viewers often mention that these little discoveries keep them looking longer.
4.4.
Since the poster’s release, travellers have timed their walks to watch the morning service from the same viewpoint. Local guides now offer short routes that end on the hill opposite the bridge, where people line up to take near-identical shots as the train glides past.

JOE’S GRASS-COURT NOTES
You keep asking me about the London grass tournament, so here are two quick facts. First, players must wear white. The point is to keep the focus on rallies, not outfits. Second, the balls are yellow today because that color is easier to follow on television than the old white ones.
Tekst B
THE OUTSIDER, A MEMORY
My first racket was a cut-down adult model, still too heavy to swing with one hand. So I learned a two-handed backhand. People told me it looked odd—until I started winning. When another top player and I were lifting trophies with the same stroke, juniors everywhere copied us. The two-hander became the trend and it’s still common now.

Subject: first tennis lesson
Hi John,
Next week I’m taking my very first tennis lesson and I’m nervous. Could you share a few tips so I know what to expect and feel more confident? Lately I’ve read a lot about the London tournament—apparently they keep balls in cool storage during the event, and visitors can buy used balls afterward as souvenirs.
Write back soon!

Przeczytaj wiadomość, którą Anna wysłała do kolegi.
Hi Ben,
You’ll be glad to hear that I’ve taken your advice. I’m going to start learning to play tennis. I’ve done some research on the internet, and I’ve chosen one of the clubs in my area. I have learnt that if you want to join the club, it doesn’t matter what your fitness level is, how well or how badly you play, and even 5.4 you are.
The club uses teaching methods developed with the help of 5.5 a , so I hope I’ll learn fast.
I’ve already bought my first tennis racket, and I also have a comfortable skirt and a neon pink top designed for tennis. In my opinion, it’s not fair that players who take part in Wimbledon can wear only 5.6 .
And guess what! I’ve heard that at Wimbledon they 5.7 used during the tournament when they are no longer needed. I’d like to get some if I’m lucky enough to visit London one day.
Anyway, keep your fingers crossed!
By the way, I hope we’ll have a game or two when I come to see you in the autumn.
Anna

A VOICE IN OLD CASSETTES
In 2014, Leo, a university student, stopped at a Saturday yard sale to look for props for his campus history podcast. He bought a dusty shoebox filled with old cassette tapes and a small recorder. Back in his dorm, he listened to a few minutes and heard clear street sounds, short interviews with shopkeepers, and songs performed by the same woman in different places around the city. Because none of it matched the topic of the episode he was producing, he put the box on a shelf and focused on finishing the show.
Months later, when the semester ended, Leo returned to the tapes. He became fascinated by the careful dates written on the labels and the calm voice asking questions. Tucked under the recorder he found a library receipt with a name: Maria Alvarez. Leo searched public records and learned that Maria had worked for years as a night-shift bus driver. She often recorded the city after work and sometimes sang on street corners. Hoping to meet her, Leo contacted the bus company. A manager replied that Maria had retired to a small town two years earlier. When Leo tried to call a number listed in the records, he was told by a neighbour that Maria had passed away the previous winter.
With help from a community arts centre, Leo digitised the best tapes and organised a small listening event. People who had known Maria came forward with memories: how she would give free rides to nurses after late shifts, how she remembered regular passengers by name, and how she sang to keep herself awake on long routes. The local library later created an online collection, and the city museum added a short exhibit about night workers, featuring Maria’s recordings.

A. She recorded the city while working as a nurse.
B. She performed and recorded after finishing her shifts.
C. She learned to sing from a music professor.
D. She moved abroad shortly before retiring.
6.4. Which event happened as a result of Leo’s project?
A. The neighbour organised a street concert in Maria’s honour.
B. The university financed a new radio studio.

6.5. The text is mainly about

THE CLOCKMAKER’S NOTEBOOK
The old clockmaker, Mr Hale, once met a boy in front of his workshop just as the shop was closing. The boy was crying because he had lost his sketchbook full of drawings. After the boy had gone home with his mother, Mr Hale searched every corner of the counter and the floor. 7.1 _____ The next morning he wanted to comfort the boy, so he came up with an idea. 7.2 _____ The message said: Don’t be sad. I’m travelling around town to learn new tricks and better drawings. I’ll write to you about what I see.
This was the beginning of many short meetings after school. The boy often stopped by, and Mr Hale told him about the sketchbook’s adventures: how it watched street artists, rode the tram, and visited the library to look at picture books. Finally, one afternoon Mr Hale presented the boy with a new sketchbook. It looked different from the lost one, so the boy hesitated. 7.3 _____ Hearing that, the boy smiled, hugged the new sketchbook and ran home, excited to start drawing again.
